How Will A Massage Feel?
Massage on normal tissue is almost always a pleasant sensation. Massage in the area of an injury or chronic pain may at first cause some discomfort which usually lessens noticeably in the first few minutes. The massage therapist knows ways to minimize pain and will work carefully within what feels right to you. Always tell your therapist if you feel any discomfort so they can make adjustments.
Who Should Get A Massage?
- Anyone with daily stress.
- Anyone who wants to fully relax after a long, hard day.
- Anyone who wants relief from aches and pains of injury or everyday activity.
- Anyone who sits most of the day.
- YOU!
Is Massage Always Appropriate?
There are some conditions for which massage is not appropriate. Always tell your massage therapist if you have a medical problem, even a minor one. Also, let your primary health care provider know that you are receiving massage. Some conditions require close communication between your massage therapist and your health care provider. Your massage therapist will gladly provide regular progress reports.
What should I Expect Afterward?
Massage and body work can be profoundly relaxing, affecting all body systems. Give yourself a moment to reorient yourself before slowly getting up. After a session, most people feel very relaxed. Many experience freedom from aches and pains that have built up over months of tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience an increase in energy that can last for several days.
Sometimes you may not feel dramatic results right away. Watch for changes over the following days, such as pain relief, increased mobility or reduced stress.
